In terms of the previous batman book I read, this one is an improvement in almost every way. Most of my complaints were addressed, and other things were improved upon.
Every chapter was like a gachapon mystery surprise with a new iconic villain cameo. The story was more interesting, and I liked the characters a lot more. I do miss the switching of narrators that Year One had between Gordon and Wayne, but it's not a huge takeaway.
My gripe with Year One was that catwoman was not handled well, and that is completely different in this book. Her presence makes way more sense and is weaved well into the story. HOWEVER, there was another victim being ignored by the narrative, and that's poision ivy. I wish she had a bigger role or was around more because I love her so much.
As far as art style goes, I liked the character design and the sets, but it seemed there was this battle that was going on in relation to the face detail where everything was either too detailed or not at all, sometimes at the same time.
My biggest question is: how the fuck did the Dent house blow up with them completely inside and they were practically fine?
