“There is truly no greater burden than freedom, no heavier load than liberty.”

The Burden of Freedom is a fantastic book! It also happens to be my first introduction to literature written by Dr. Munroe. Freedom is something that every individual wants, but we are only truly free under God, according to Dr. Munroe. The Burden of Freedom talks a lot about oppression and how it affects an individual and a nation. Dr. Munroe draws upon his personal experiences and his home country (The Bahamas). Dr. Munroe talks about shaking off your shackles of oppression and the journey to freedom. He illustrates the different cycles of oppression we can trap ourselves in and the mindsets that get us stuck in the 'wilderness.' How to change your mindset is shown throughout The Burden of Freedom. The Burden of Freedom is a wonderful book. I read this in a great time in my life when I needed to hear some of these things. I would reread this book in the future to remind myself of some of these helpful things laid out in the book. I think The Burden of Freedom is helpful for those who grew up in the Caribbean. You can see how we are still oppressing ourselves even though we as a nation are independent.
