The Evelyn Hugo storyline was emotional, captivating and simply put brilliant. I would give it an easy 5 stars. However, and it is a big however, that’s precisely the reason why the contrast between the frame (Monique) story and the Evelyn story was so shocking. The frame storyline was strikingly weak and it tried way too hard to be “millennial” which came across forced. I wonder how an author who brought to life the story of Evelyn Hugo can write such a weak (in lack of other words) other “main”character.
