Whoa, this was GOOD, friends.  I didn’t know what to expect when I picked this up.  I just saw it come up on the new books cart at the library and it grabbed me.  This is a queer asian reincarnation romantasy spanning multiple lifetimes from 4 BCE through modern day.  It is the story of two men who find each other across lifetimes, coming together and breaking apart over and over.  A powerful force who shows up in many guises and bodies casts a long shadow over them over the centuries.  But is a connection that burn so brightly something that will consume them both or can they find a way to break free?

Favorite Parts - I loved the ancient chinese court setting in the first lifetimes and seeing the way echoes of it made their way through history.  It’s exciting and compelling to see more and more settings that weren’t available to me as I was growing up.  I hope we’ll see more work from Justinan Huang and authors like him.

Seeing River trying to navigate his complicated feelings and the unexpected strength of them as he was drawn to Joey was really interesting.

Read This If You - like Wuxia stories and films and always wanted them to be queer, like a sort of time travel story, liked This Is How You Lose The Time War, want to see more queer asian stories and support diverse stories and authors
