Early Thirties by Josh Duboff
DID NOT FINISH: 55%

I haven’t written a review or an explanation for a DNF in quite sometime but I felt with this being a fairly new release, it was only right for me to do so.

I wanted to love this book so much. It was not on my radar at all and was a complete impulse/cover buy. But, once I read the summary I was certain I would love it as someone who is IN my ‘Early Thirties’ and have recently experienced a shift in friendships due to the way life goes. It did not deliver. To be honest, I wanted to DNF around page 50 because I just did not care but wanted to keep pushing. 185 pages and I didn’t pick it (or anything else) up for almost a week. Nope, it’s time to part ways.

A few things of importance:
1. *Trigger/spoiler warning* - I know that trigger warnings are not required..but this book definitely needed one as the first chapter, right out of the gate you’re meeting the main character in the hospital after an attempted suicide/overdose. I am not someone who is sensitive to matters like this BUT if I was, and was unprepared that would have been it..3 paragraphs in.

2. The main characters, Zoey and Victor, were so unlikable. Now, again, I know that character growth is sometimes the point of the story. But the growth was not growthing. 😅

3. Did I mention I literally did not care about any of these characters or what happened to them?

4. There were random POV chapters from other characters in the story that brought absolutely nothing to the story except confusion

So, overall..I wouldn’t waste my hard earned cash on this. Maybe borrow it from the library if you think you could be interested. 🤷🏻‍♀️
