A very emotional read - Hendrix did an amazing job of writing from a women's perspective, and I think really honored the horrifying history of the big scoop of the 60s. The girls were manipulated, had their choices and all truth held from them, and so they found power in each other and in their pain. As angry as some parts made me, other parts were so simply beautiful. Though the birthing scenes are blunt and scary as a child bearing aged woman, the real upsetting scenes were those where the girls were being controlled, lied to, dismissed.
The contrast between Ferns hospital birthing and Holly's home birth was so stark and painful. Fern may not have felt the actual birth in the end, but I would take Holly's experience every time.
Honestly such a great read.
