Little Fires Everywhere
by Celeste Ng
Little Fires Everywhere is set around the suburb of Shaker Heights. The Richardson family, two parents and four children, live comfortably in a large home. That is until the youngest, Izzy, sets the house on fire. From there we go backwards to find out what led to the youngest Richardson causing such ruin.
Enter Mia and her daughter Pearl, who rent the duplex owned by the Richardsons. Quickly, both families become intertwined with Pearl becoming an every day fixture at the Richardsons' house and Mia eventually working for the family.
While these relationships are building, a local family takes in a baby left at a fire station. The mother of the child eventually decides leaving her child was an accident and fights for her back. Both Mrs. Richardson and Mia become closely involved in this case causing deep rifts. Choices are made. Choices that have many affects on multiple parties involved.
Ng's first novel, Everything I Never Told You, was wonderfully written, so I was excited to hear that she had a new novel coming out. I was even more excited when Amazon sent me a coupon and I got the hardcover for $5.86. But the most exciting part was that this was no sophomore slump. Ng has written another excellent page turner. I cannot wait to see what her future books hold.
