Mortal Follies by Alexis Hall
2.0

I really wanted to love this one! I loved the hobgoblin narrator, they were hilarious and honestly the only reason I kept reading. I found the plot to be weak, the characters uninteresting, and most importantly I thought the romance was extremely uncomfortable. Hearing the MC throw herself at the love interest over and over again, getting increasingly more demanding, while the love interest is saying no the entire time? Not a fan of that. I’m not saying things were non-consensual, the love interest clearly expressed that she was equally interested in the MC. But she also very clearly stated that despite that interest she was not interested in actually pursuing anything.
SpoilerBut then the MC proceeds to complain and pester and ride for 3 days to show up at her house unexpectedly and demand she gives her what she wants? And when she finally gives in, MC then starts demanding even more out of her in the form of forced emotional intimacy?
Big yikes. Biiiig big yikes. It was very cringey, and desperate, and not cute.

Overall, this book started off strong but swiftly took a sharp turn after maybe 30%. I probably should have DNF’d but I was too hopeful that it would improve (needless to say, it did not)
