Interestingly enough, Perrota veers from several neatly packaged books that provide a reason for the main plot point. Although left with a feeling of incompletion, Perrota gives us the feeling his characters experience, a very realistic resolution that not everything happens for a reason.

The TV show has several differences but the TV show appears to extend the personalities of the characters in the book.
