Cinder by Marissa Meyer
4.0
THIS REVIEW IS IN FRENCH AND IN ENGLISH.
EN : 3.5 - 4 / 5 Hmmm...
I picked up this book from my local library without expecting too much. Then I started it and thought it would be awesome. And then I continued and found myself disappointed. Loved the world that was created and the idea behind the story, but sadly it just became the most predictable YA/teenage book with OK characters ... Voilà the short version.
I must say I LOVED the fact that we got a science-fiction universe with old fairytale elements. The parts that reminded me this was basically a Cinderella story were great ! The car, the boot, the 'charming', etc. It was (for once) a unique and original retelling of that specific fairytale.
So when all of those things were introduced at the start, I was excited to see where it would go.
I guessed exactly what was going on from the beginning, so nothing surprised me. I was actually expecting more to it than that, but I'm hoping that will come with the next books in the series.
The characters I thought were okay, I didn't dislike any of them. I was torn between sometimes thinking Cinder was a really good strong character, and other times finding her ridiculously dumb, to whom we had to explain everything. Again, hoping we'll get more badass from her in the next books. Also, I'm excited to see how the new characters and their fairytales will be depicted.
I guess that's where I'm at : Really love the world the writer has created and how she ties in the fairytales we know into a futuristic world. But the plot better be getting less predictable and the characters stronger, if not I won't want to continue...
FR : 3.5 - 4 / 5 Hmmmm...
