This was so incredibly unlike all other historical romance (at least that I've read). It had that weird intensity that I noted in my review of The Weight of the Stars that I generally enjoy but sometimes find to be a tad pretentious. I was leaning in the pretentious direction at the very beginning of the book, but at some point, I just lost myself to enjoying the book, and suddenly my evening had flown by. Felicity was an incredibly likable heroine and while I was frustrated by the inclusion of one of my least favorite romance plot points

You know... the one where the man breaks up with the woman because he just knows she'd be better off without him so he'd rather drive her away than force her to suffer through being with him. Yeah, that one. Yes, it's incredibly stupid and I hate it a lot.

overall I would say that the romance in this book was fairly convincing and well fleshed-out. I look forward to continuing the series:)
