The Fragile Ordinary
by Samantha Young
I enjoyed this book. It was a slow start for me but once things started to pick up, I could not put it down. It was about half way before it really started to pick up.
I was intrigued because it's a YA romance from Young. I've read some of her adult books.
This story is about Comet and her life. She's shy, introverted, writes poetry and loves books. She has a mini library, with a ladder, because she wanted to be like Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Ugh. This girl spoke to me. I fell in love with her from the beginning. This poor girl lives in books because she would rather live in fiction than reality. I love how she grew and figured out who she was. She really does "blossom" right in front of your eyes.
Her best friends drove me crazy at first. Not supportive at all but Vicki eventually won me over. Steph on the other hand, I could do without. She just was not a good friend. Her character annoyed me so much throughout this book.
Tobias. Oh man, he was so complicated! He had such a heart breaking story. Actually, this whole book was heart breaking, at times. I loved him with Comet. To me, he wasn't even the biggest aspect of this book or their love. As much as I loved him, I loved Comet so much more. This book was more about her and how she learned to live. How she learned that real life can be as good as the books.
Anyone else heartbroken for Comet and her parents situation?? The whole time, it just crushed me. What a very sad situation. I know it really does happen and it make my heart hurt. I just wanted to give her a big hug!
Another thing that kind of drove me nuts was Stevie's vocabulary, It was awful and it really stopped my flow. I get that he was with a bad group of people but come on!
This was a good read and I really enjoyed it. Every once in a while, I like a good romance book!
Thank you to Edelweiss and Harlequin Teen/HarperCollins for allowing me to read this book!
