lizbethandthelifeinbetween 's review for:
Ninth House
by Leigh Bardugo
dark
mysterious
tense
slow-paced
Upon rereading this is agree with my rating of 3 stars. I can't say why I gave it that initially, and I remember around that time I wasn't enjoying reading very much so I thought I may have been overly harsh.
I found the book very boring. I can see a lot of elements of Leigh's writing style that I enjoy, but outside of that, this book is not for me. I was finding it a bit hard to follow the flash backs/forwards and the nonlinear storytelling. I was also not invested in any of the characters at all. I think the nonlinear style made it harder to get invested becuase I was spending so much time trying to orient myself in the timeline.
Outside of that, I never would have picked up this book if it were not for the author, so I can't say I was expecting anything more.
Will not be rereading Hell Bent or further investing myself in this series. Can't wait for something else from this author, I've loved everything else she's done.
