I... didn't like it.
I've read a few of Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera's other books and I enjoyed those. But I just REALLY didn't like this one.
The two main boys kind of stalked each other. And once they were together it didn't seem like they were right for each other. And they didn't seem that into each other. One day, Ben was all over Arthur and the next he just didn't seem interested.
And the characters weren't that great on their own either. It seemed like Arthur's only personality trait was that he's a theatre kid. And Ben's only personality trait was that he wasn't quite over his ex. Neither of them seemed ready for a relationship.
Their do-over dates just seemed dumb. Instead of accepting that their first date wasn't perfect, they just kept "starting over" and calling their first six dates their "first date." It just got really annoying.
I just didn't enjoy this book. I found the characters annoying and the relationship annoying.
As a bisexual man, I usually connect more with the LGBTQ+ characters in a book, but that was not the case in this book. I actually preferred the straight characters (Jessie, Ethan, Samantha, Dylan, etc.) to the gay main characters, which NEVER happens for me. I think that really says something about how much the main characters annoyed me.
