Somewhere Close to Happy
by Lia Louis
I loved Lia's second novel when I read it this summer and immediately placed holds at the library on multiple formats of her new one to see which ones comes first. When I looked for her first book, I couldn't find it anywhere locally so I ordered it online from the UK. News flash: I loved this one too!! Lizzie and Roman met at a special school when they were 15 and were very close until he abruptly disappeared from her life. Twelve years later she receives a letter in the mail that he apparently wrote right when he left but it wasn't sent until now. She and her friend Priscilla embark on a journey to try and find Roman. Once again, Louis's writing was funny, heartbreaking, and captivating. I think I still liked Dear Emmie Blue better but this one is not far behind. Warning for some: it doesn't have an entirely nicely wrapped up happy ending and deals with some more serious content (see below) but I think the ending was good and made sense for the book.
