Beartown by Fredrik Backman
5.0

A hockey obsessed town in need of a boost, a junior team on the cusp of competing in the national semifinals and a violent act that rips the town apart, pitting neighbor against neighbor. ⁣

Oh, Backman how you have captured my heart! The residents of Beartown captured me and still haven’t let go. What an emotional read! I left this unread because I’m not a sports fan and I doubted a book centered around hockey could hold my attention. Boy was I wrong! I’m so glad I finally gave this one a try. If you haven’t read this yet - do it! You’re missing out. ⁣

This wasn’t easy subject matter to tackle as it deals with rape but Backman writes with so much heart that even in the face of violence, despair and ugliness we are filled with hope. His characters are so vivid and human. He has such a knack for bringing light to all the gray areas of our morals and emotions. ⁣

I loved this book and am looking forward to reading
