The Metamorphosis describes the life of Gregor Samsa and his family following the morning Gregor transforms into a gigantic insect. Guilt, alienation, and fear are present throughout the work as the Samsa family has to come to terms with Gregor's new body.

I liked the ending. I knew from the beginning that this wasn't going to have a happy ending and I'm glad I was right. From time to time, a dark, sad story is exactly what I need and this delivered.

This book flipped back and forth between 3 or 4 stars. I ended up giving it a three, mainly because I'm trying to be more strict with my rating system, but also because there were some flaws with the story. For example, I thought Grete as a character changes randomly from being kind to rude (and vice versa) to Gregor (in his insect state) with no apparent reasoning.
