The Feminist Movement and the Muslim World by Maryam Jameelah
1.0
The book is pathetic. The way author presents her view is so typical of a lot of Muslim writers. They present their conclusions. Just that. There are no citations, no theories to back up the conclusion, no history, nothing. They concluded that because they wanted to.
At one place the author states,"The traditional family is also the unit of stability of society and the four wives that a Muslim can marry, like the four sided Ka'aba, symbolize this stability!" I fail to see how the author reached to that conclusion. What if Ka'aba had 6 sides? Would Islam have permitted 6 marriages then? The comparisons are so nonsensical.
Next she go on to bash West for its support towards the feminist movement. Something which has "fortunately" not touched Muslim countries. If it is up to her, she will ask every lady to wear 'purdah' and then stay at home.
And she doesn't support the equality of sex either. According to her, that concept is ridiculous. A man is the head of the family and that is it. No arguing with that!
In all, the book is extremely biased and presents a very narrow view of life. A lot of points made in the book doesn't have any support, in theory or in practice. An extremely ridiculous book if you ask me!
