The Serpent's Shadow
by Rick Riordan
I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed this trilogy. I didn't really expect to like Rick Riordan's books, but after seeing such high ratings from such a variety of readers I thought I'd give his shortest series a try.
The books were very entertaining and I laughed out loud several times when reading this one. I particularly liked reading from Sadie's POV, she was a very sharp and witty character. The Egyptian mythology elements of the book were great, I really enjoyed reading about the various gods and their roles. That was probably my favourite part about the book.
The only thing that really bothered me was the endpoint to Sadie's weird love triangle. It was a bit left field and seemed to solve everything in a too perfect way, yet left me feeling like it was still totally unresolved and she just had a different problem now!
All in all, would recommend this trilogy to anyone who wants a light hearted and entertaining read with lots of cool magic and gods. I listened to the first two books as audiobooks and they were very well narrated. The story works really well in audiobook format! Either way, a very enjoyable story.
