libscote 's review for:
Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus
by Dusti Bowling
I enjoyed Aven as a character, as well as the look at Cole and Zion, but I left this book wondering about what research the author did for any of the characters in the book. I would have loved some back matter explaining the author's experience with people born missing limbs, or Tourette's, or why she was inspired to write the book. In the age of #ownvoices, I guess I have become more critical when I see white able-bodied people writing about other experiences and not explaining any of the process in the book.
The back does contain discussion questions, which is helpful. I just wish there had been a note.
