If you have ever lived in Milwaukee, or really any other major city, you need to read this book. The stories are haunting, insightful, and provide a glimpse into the realities that many residents in the cycle of poverty face. This work of non-fiction is so well written, it reads with the ease of a novel. A must read for those who want to try to understand how unfair and broken our housing system is, how it perpetuates poverty and segregation, and how many devastating loopholes in laws there are when it comes to housing, shelters, welfare, etc. for the most vulnerable to be taken advantage of or kept out. I appreciate how the book approaches the eviction epidemic from the perspective of tenants as well as landlords. Housing is a human right, and this book only goes to show how important and needed housing first models are, and the downward spiral that evictions and lack of affordable housing can cause.
