This book had been on my tbr for a few years now and I finally read it thanks to a friend on insta.

Pachinko initially follows Yangjin and Hoonie, who then had their only daughter Sunja. It would show Sunja's life from a teenage girl to her mid seventies and the generations that followed her! Pachinko is set from the years 1910-1989 in both Korea and in Japan. You will see the affects of the first world war, the great depression, and world war two had on this family, as well as their own life choices in between these major events. This book discusses how Koreans would have been treated during the Japanese occupation of Korea up until 1945 and how it affected the generations afterwards as well.

Overall, I think this book was great, but the last part of the book felt super rushed to tie up loose ends, kind of throwing out what they had built up over time, and the ending fell flat for me. But, I did enjoy the setting of this book and seeing the wars through a different lens and seeing Sunja grow old and everything that happened in the book.
