How to Make a Wish
by Ashley Herring Blake
I honestly have nothing negative to say about this book, which is rare for me with YA contemporaries. I expected to like this, but I had no idea that it would have the emotional impact on me that it did.
The writing and pacing are great and kept me interested enough to read almost all of it in one day. The characters make decisions that make sense with their relationships and situations. I loved Grace and Eva's relationship and I think they may be my favorite f/f couple I've read about in a book (although I haven't read about that many). I felt like I could relate to Grace and even Eva even though I have never been in the situations that they deal with, which I think is another sign of how well written this book is.
I likes a lot about this book, but what makes it a five star read for me is the bisexual representation with the main character being bisexual. I have also heard that the bisexual rep is own voices. As someone who is questioning my sexuality, this book provided valuable discussion of what it means to be bisexual and helped me think about sexuality differently than I had before. It may not have cause a major revelation, but it did help me get closer than I had been. I really need this book so I'm glad I picked it up. The discussion of grief also had an emotional impact on me.
