The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels
by India Holton
Pirates, Assassins, flying ships, and tragic family pasts come together in this story about a lady who dreams about joining the senior table at the society of rogueish women and the assassin that is in love with her but is hired to kill her. Cecilia Bassingwaite is the ideal Victorian lady... except she is also a thief and a member of the Wisteria Society, a crime sorority. Cecilia spends her time drinking tea, blackmailing friends, acquiring treasure, and being an all around rogue. However Cecilia has a tragic past herself, one that is coming back for her. Ned Lightbourne is a sometimes pirate, sometimes scoundral and rake, and a captain. Ned is smitten with Cecilia the first moment she meets him and slams a door in his face. Too bad he’s been hired to kill her from one employer and another employer has hired him to kidnap her for his own reasons. Ned is employed by Captain Morvath, a dangerous man who possess a gothic abbey bristling with cannons and a deep hatred for the Wisteria Society for taking his wife and turning her against him... and he now wants Ned to bring him Cecilia. While avoiding assassination attempts mixed in with flirtation, Cecilia and Ned start to bond but both realize they’ll have to rely on each other if they want to make it out alive as Captain Morvath and the Wisteria Society head to war against one another. Filled with pirate like ladies, a rakish assassin, magic, and complicated family histories this was a mixture of historical romance with bits of fantasy.
