I wanted to love this, but I ended up liking it. This is a really fascinating period in colonial history, and I learned a lot. This book is very dense, and I felt confused during some parts because Schiff’s explanations and narratives seemed convoluted at times. Overall, it was interesting but wish it was organized a bit better, narrative wise.
