This book had so much potential and it started so well. Karp's account of becoming homeless and beginning to cope with that was generally realistic, vivid, and extremely interesting. If it had simply continued in this vein and perhaps added some genuine tips for people dealing with sudden homelessness after a lifestyle where one might not expect to end up there, this would have been a great read. Unfortunately I have no idea what happening in the second half of the book - it took a wild turn into a completely insane series of events that I don't think any other human being in the world could relate to. It was so unexpected and inexplicable that I took to googling and found Karp's account is considered suspicious and unverified - can't say I'm surprised given what happens. Even if every word is true it's just so outside of the bounds of normal reality that I stopped being able to empathise with the account and just became embroiled in disbelief.

Put simply, what supposedly happens to Karp later in her tale is just bizarre. It took a 4, even maybe 5 star read (the writing itself was very good) right down to two stars for me, and the only reason it wasn't one star was because of the redeeming features of the first part of the book.
