When a stranger is found dead in her family's cucumber batch, 11 year-old Flavia de Luce, Chemist extraordinaire with a special love of poison, takes it upon herself to crack the case.

The novel is set in 1950 in the English countryside so it's both quaint and troublesome at times. (Yellowface, really was it necessary? Also Flavia, I know colonialism is still a thing in 1950 but calm down)

The characters, especially Flavia who narrates, are colorful and interesting. The action was well paced and the mystery, while a touch predictable, was nonetheless compelling.

I will be reading more of Miss de Luce's exploits in the future.
