The Name of the Star
by Maureen Johnson
I really, really liked this book. It grabbed you from the beginning and didn't let go. (Fair warning there is some teenage angst in the middle that is a little tiresome but ends quickly.) Jack the Ripper is at it again in the city of London but it is over 100 years later, and even with a city of CCTV cameras, there is no finding the villain. While all of this is going on Rory is a new Louisiana Southerner at a very British boarding school. Trying to fit in at home is a cake walk compared to a school that requires daily sports classes, tons of work, and even classes on Saturday. Plus the school is in the middle of the Ripper's play ground.
This book was nothing like I thought it would be, but I am not disappointed.
