Super Sons, Volume 1: When I Grow Up by Peter J. Tomasi, Jorge Jimenez
4.0

Super Sons Vol. 1 delivered on the wacky preteen hijinks. Damian and Jon's adventure in this volume sees them sneaking out to face down Lex Luthor and uncovering the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of a family of superheroes. This story was perfectly paced and balanced action, adventure and mystery excellently.

I absolutely adored Damian and Jon's odd couple dynamic. Damian's self-seriousness and ego were perfectly tempered by Jon's reserve. But the story never forgets that the two are kids. Their arguments frequently devolve into silly childish bickering and light-hearted brawls that felt fitting for the characters.

I loved Jorge Jimenez's art style throughout. He perfectly captured a rambunctious, childlike energy to Damian and Jon that was endlessly engaging. I especially love how Jimenez contrasts Damian's precise and efficient fighting style with Jon's haphazard flailing and perfectly captures the presence of both characters.

I had so much fun with Super Sons Vol. 1 and I can't wait to see where Damian and Jon go next as the series continues.
