it’s a nice middle grade series.
but it has some issues.
i dislike that all the books quite frequently mention Harry Potter without having actual reason to do so and in a way that only makes it worth the mention of the reader of this series/book has also at least read part of the HP series.
i dislike that not only because of JKRs horrendous options on other humans and their rights but mostly because i don’t like it if a middle grader has to have read a different book series that had absolutely nothing to do with this one to understand frequently used references. but if they haven’t read the other books a lot of the comments don’t make sense, such as having characters described by their hogwarts houses instead of just giving some character traits or describing something simply using words instead of naming a HP creature as a description.
i just think especially in childrens books it shouldn’t be assumed that just because they are reading one book they have read others, especially if it can be easily be done differently by simply using other descriptions t has t work for everyone!
the other thing i dislike in this series is that it’s repetitive.
not only does each of the books go over what happened in the other books before more than once but it also reintroduces everyone and everything in each book all over again.
which for a relatively simple series like this is completely unnecessary!
a couple of sentences at the start of the book would have been enough to either remind the reader what happened or catch someone up who just wants to read this this book.
that could have been done better!
and with less pages spend on repeating what was already done all over again.
the rest of this book is okay.
i liked that cassidy finally actually had at least a small amount of help from adults in this one, even if i wish it would have been a bit more.
i did like that it was wrapping it all up a little and we got more information about the entire veil thing.
but i also felt that this book wasn’t written in a way that makes it clear that it’s the final book in the series but rather feels like a middle book.
overall it’s a fun final book and it’s mostly well done.
it’s easy to read and a pretty quick read as well.
i think it’s a nice middle grade story and the entire trilogy is overall a good one.
it has its issues (the already mentioned HP references a big one) but all in all it’s a solid series and for a reader that enjoys a little paranormal and spooky times without being completely scared by things it’s a good one for that.
