I am so glad I finally got to this and so upset with myself I did not prioritize it in 2018. Orange's writing is creative and original. He shares an often invisible narrative about Urban Natives and their strength in a society working against them. Set in Oakland, California, the ensemble cast of characters are so unique and beautiful and I loved understanding how they were all interconnected. I knew little of powwows and while this was a devastating portrayal, it left an impact. A absolute must read!
