Happy Trail is the first book in the Park Ranger series by Daisy Prescott. Happy Trail is an adult contemporary romantic comedy series, published by Smartypants Romance. If you are new to Smartypants Romance, here is the quick breakdown of how this publishing company works. Smartypants Romance is the publishing company started by Penny Reid, which as most of you know, is one of my all time favorite romance authors. Smartypants romance brings on new authors to write their own series or stories, and the cool feature is that all of their stories will be set in the Penny Reid universe! I love this idea so, so much. It is perfect for new fans and old fans because we get all new story lines and characters, but we get to see plenty of character crossover. The Park Ranger series is set in Tennessee in Penny Reid's Green Valley world. (Home to the famous Winston Brothers!)
In Happy Trail we meet park ranger, Dr. Jay Daniels and Appalachian trail hiking socialite Olive Perry. I was completely enchanted by Jay and Olive (AKA snowbird) romance. I flippin' loved these two. From their very first encounter, I knew their story was going to be a home run for me. Happy Trail is told in dual narrative between Jay and Olive. Jay is a Park Ranger nears Cade's Cove Tennessee. He sets out to clear the trails because of an impending storm, when he finds Olive hiking alone. They get stuck in the storm, and their adventure begins. Jay and Olive gave me a major case of perma-smile. I just love those two.
Olive's story was a big part of Happy Trail, and I loved her back story. She starts out hiking the AT with her boyfriend, who is insta-famous, and pretty much only cares about his next picture and the number of likes it will get. I loved how relevant this type of D-bag was. It cracked me up in this digital social media age. When they part ways (I will let you read so you can find out how) Olive decides to hike the rest of the way herself. Olive was my favorite character in Happy Trail, which was a pleasant surprise for me. I just loved her spirit. Happy Trail is my favorite smartypants romance book I have read yet!
