Minor Detail

This story was haunting. The telling was straightforward in a way that highlighted how gruesome parts of it were. The repetition of the "minor details" throughout - like dogs barking, explosions in the background, dust and gravel, the chewing gum - slowed me down enough to keep me in the moment and feel uncomfortable.
