Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow
by Jessica Townsend
Morrigan continues to be utterly delightfully dour, finds friends, learns magic tricks, and this series settles into being a school story. I'm ok with that. It's a familiar sub-genre, the magical school, and one I adore. It does take away form the sense of utter oddity that I first had when I encountered Nevermoor, which is a bit of a bummer, but it doesn't take away form my joy at having more of it. The plot is well crafted and tightly paced, multiple characters develop and grow, and the world-building is entirely on-point.
