watermelleon 's review for:
The Invention of Hugo Cabret
by Brian Selznick
I have just finished this masterpiece and I am in utter tears. Every urge of mine wants to tell you this is a fantasy book, but it is a children's historical fiction book with so much magic that it makes it feel like magic is a part of our world.
It is a celebration of the origins of cinema and the first who dared to make films: magicians who knew that with a camera they had the opportunity to create magic in new forms. It is a story of success, and failure, and a reminder to never give up on your passions and dreams. The formatting of this book is incredible, and it feels almost at times like you are reading a silent movie!!
Cinematic, heart wrenching, heartwarming. Please read it.
ALSO A QUICK EDIT: Cornelia funke LOVES THIS BOOK, and after reading this I really tied similarities between this and the thief lord in terms of magical elements!! I completely forgot this snippet of information so its fascinating to me that one book made me think of the other!
