The Shack by Wm. Paul Young

So... wow. Okay. I'm surprised by this: I REALLY liked this book.
I only picked it up from the library because I'd been hearing the title so often from people. I didn't really know what the story was about, aside from the fact that it had something to do with "God" - and as a person who is not religious in the slightest, and actually quite against institutionalized religion, I didn't think I would enjoy this book one bit.

But I loved it. This book is NOT about religion - this book is about spirituality. It's about faith, love, and openness. (The book itself, and the characters in it, even turn down the idea of religion.) The story is a bit goofy and cheesy at times, yes, but I found I could barely put it down once I got into the story. It gets you thinking, and if you're in an open state of mind, it can even be very inspiring. It opened up the idea of spirituality to me even more. I've never had a problem with anyone being spiritual or having personal faith; this book helped me to understand how that can be a center of many peoples' lives.

And I have to point this out as well - I comment on books based on their story and my interest level in them, NOT on their literary wow-factor. I should mention this book is quite poorly written. The dialogue can be weird... frankly, the author is not a good writer. That said, as mentioned above I clearly enjoyed the overall theme and story of the book.
