Dark Currents
by Jacqueline Carey
The writing style is so different from Kushiel! I guess I was expecting an epic when I started Dark Currents. Carey has definitely read up the popular PNR/UF series, the vibe is very similar to others on the market (especially the vague insinuations of a love triangle). I liked Daisy, but I wasn't attached to her. I couldn't stop thinking about the logistics of having a fully human body with a small tail, though.
The amount of supernatural/mundane interaction definitely kept me interested as the character development dragged a little. It's the main reason I read UF (that and because I'm still holding out hope for my Hogwarts letter. I'm 27.)
