I cry every time I read this book.  Again, The Gentleman Bastards series is on of my favorites; it takes a little to get the hang of how Mr Lynch jumps back & forth between past & present, but once you understand how he writes it's pretty easy to get captivated by his world & the characters in it.
This one has pirates and thieves.
