Saturn Run
by John Sandford, Ctein
I had a good time with this book - the plot really appealed to me and the writing was easy to read. It was gripping and at times suspenseful (though I was surprised upon finishing it to discover it is considered a sci-fi thriller because the thrilling aspects felt only occasional). I like that the book kept me guessing for a long time about what would be found on Saturn, and crucially the final answer did not let me down. In some ways this novel reminded me of books by Andy Weir, with the combination of science, character focus and relaxed writing style which would be easily accessible to people who don't often read science fiction.
I did have an issue throughout the book with the way that the Americans continually refused to share the discovery at Saturn and the potential benefits it brings, either with the Chinese (their main competition in this new space race) or with any other nations - even their supposed allies. It probably isn't unrealistic but it is aggravating and at times makes it hard to really root for the main characters to succeed.
Overall I enjoyed this book a lot and would recommend it.
