The Republic of Thieves
by Scott Lynch
I adored the first two books in this series but I didn't particularly like this one.
I found this book unbelievably slow, it felt like it didn't really start until about 2/3 of the way through and even then it didn't seem like there was very much happening. And I'm someone who generally likes a slightly slower pace and I love character driven stories but this was just too slow even for me.
There were a LOT of names and aliases to keep track of and just a lot going on and I found it really hard to follow (I'm not great at keeping track of names and things at the best of times).
I also felt that Jean (who's my favourite character) was kind of left on the sidelines for most of this book, after building up him and the friendship between the two of them so much in book 2, it kinda felt like that dropped off here. I understand that the focus of this book was different but book 2 was my favourite in the series so far because of their relationship and that just wasn't very present here.
On a positive note, it was cool to see more of the world and see some important characters and this has definitely got me interested in the next one, however this particular entry in the series just wasn't there for me.
