Fair Game by Patricia Briggs

Another book in the Mercy Thompson/Alpha and Omega world. Holter Graham does a great job as the narrator in these books. This installment really appealed to the Criminal Minds stan in me. Profiling, FBI, supernatural government agencies, missing and dead supernatural and non supernatural beings. Anna and Charles find themselves searching for the missing human/fae daughter of a very powerful fae and they have to team up with a smart and striking FBI agent (Leslie) and agents from the newly formed Cantrip agency which was created to deal with and learn more about the supernaturals in the world. Let me be very clear in saying that, just like the other alpha and Omega books, this book is a lot darker than what we get in the original series. More specifically, the female captive is subjected to rape and *spoiler* when Anna is captured by the unsubs, she is forced to listen as one of the unsubs describes how he is going to violate her. We don’t actually hear what he’s doing to say, but it’s made clear that Anna does thanks to her supernatural hearing and it’s very traumatic for her. If you’ve read these books before then you know that Anna’s been sexually assaulted in her background (in events prior to the first book) and it’s frequently mentioned she was abused by her original pack. This is often mentioned in the series and I didn’t really think we needed to put Anna in a similar situation, but here we are. Overall, minus that, this was a good installment.
