Ten Days in a Mad-House by Nellie Bly
5.0

5/5 (audiobook)

I finished this book in one day and it was heartbreaking and enlightening and angering.

Nellie Bly's recounting of her time in an insane asylum was raw and eye-opening to the horrific treatment at the Women's Lunatic Asylum on Blackwell's Island in New York City. Bly tells of the abuse and neglect these women faced, and how oftentimes to doctors would misdiagnose women, putting sane women into the asylum for life.

It was interesting to learn of the changes that Bly's experiment turned out, but it is absolutely heartwrentching to know these things are probably still happening in some locations.
