Keeper of Enchanted Rooms by Charlie N. Holmberg
3.5

I'll be honest and say that this book isn't quite what I expected and wanted going in. I wanted a cosy story about a magical house, and that is not this book. The magical house isn't quite what it seems, and while this is light fantasy with some romance, I would not describe it as cosy. At times it's actually quite creepy.

Still, I had a good time reading it, I never wanted to put it down and it was a quick enough read that I finished it in less than a day. My main complaint really is that I never felt very invested in the romance.

I should note that this book isn't remotely historically accurate, although this may be partially explained by the fact that it is effectively set in an alternate world where magic is real and known.

There are definitely books which have done this type of light historical fantasy mystery story better, but I still enjoyed it and there are a couple of plot threads outstanding which make it pretty likely I will at some point pick up the sequel.
