Landline by Rainbow Rowell
4.0

Books about struggling marriages are usually not my favorite, but my love for Rainbow Rowell's writing combined with the interesting premise of the phone that can call into the past made me really excited about this book. I was not disappointed, Landline is soaked through with gorgeous descriptions of Georgie's thoughts and feelings as she processes her relationship with Neal, both the wonderful memories and the challenges. The stakes are high as Georgie contemplates whether she should have ended up with Neal, they have two children and an entire life built together, which adds a realistic intensity to her conflict. This is a love story that questions whether the correct thing for the person you love is even to keep them with you. I've noticed with both of Rowell's books I have read that I feel they end too quickly. I think her strength is in writing characters you become incredibly invested in, but that means that I'd gladly read a novelization of the rest of their lives and makes me feel unsatisfied even with the well timed resolution Rowell finds for them.
