So goodreads says I've read this twice, but really, I read every single Tortall book at least once a year from the time I got them at eleven and when I had to leave them behind to go to college. This is my post-university reread, and it's been a journey, for sure. To say this book is without flaws would be dishonest, but it is the utter truth to say this book and the door it opened to Tortall massively shaped my young self's dealings with bullies, gender roles, periods, popularity, and so many other things. Alanna taught me to be unapologetic, strong, and uncompromising in my convictions. I hope she sticks around for youngsters to come.
