Queenie was relatable on some levels. I felt like one of her friends while I was reading, just wanting to say No Queenie!! Don’t sleep with him AGAIN!! The self sabotage is strong with this girl!! She’s going through a hard thing and is coping in the ways she knows how. I liked how the book talked about politics and how Queenie dealt with racism at work, in her dating life, and her personal life. It was also interesting to see how her culture and the way her grandparents were raised affected her decision to seek help for her mental health. I really enjoyed the ending too. I wish we had seen more of her and her mom interacting.
Moderate: Sexual violence
She starts sleeping with a guy who’s pretty violent in bed. Like so bad she goes to an OBGYN and they’re worried she’s being pimped out or something. They talk about a tear and bruising.
