The Whispers of War

This was such a refreshing change from most WW2 stories. Don't get me wrong.... Historical fiction is my favorite but sometimes they can be really heavy.
This is a story of friendship. 3 girls who have been friends since their school days (and age 11-12)- one who is Marie, a German.
Nora and Hazel know her very well and know that she isn't sympathetic to Nazi Germany. But when all Germans in England start getting "classifications" as to how much they can do in England as war is threatening the country. When it becomes clear that Marie's very life could head towards danger, her friends will stop at nothing to keep her safe.
We also get to see small glimpses of Marie's granddaughter Samantha going over to England to talk with one of her grandmother's friends and get to know the story that she never was told.
Really good WW2 novel. I'd highly recommend.
