Something about the writing style and how the main character worded his thoughts was quite funny to me despite the sad subject matter. Particularly his ruminations on the effects of his parenting on his children. Overall a sad story, but I would reread thoigh I think it ended rather abruptly. It feels like the first two-thirds of a novella, or at the very least that it was missing another diary entry!
