Very enjoyable, especially the speculative sciency parts!
Caballo Blanco is awesome and Ann Trason has the most badass quotes. "Sometimes it takes a woman to bring out the best in a man" when she got second place like... girl is my hero.
I appreciate how much the book praises Emil Zatopek too- he's one of the goats for sure.
I feel like my main takeaway is that humans are slow and weak but persist through evolution because of ultra running-- and the best performers do it for pure enjoyment. Basically ultra runners are peak humans 🤷🏻‍♀️
Also, primitive humans survived by recognizing which antelope they had already tired out and following them all day. And heads are big not for big brains but for best ballast. TIL that jack rabbits run at 45mph too that was a cool fact. (Isn't that comparable to camel speeds as well? I might be wrong)
Anyway I love this book.
