Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar
DID NOT FINISH: 40%

I loved the idea behind the story and all the Indian culture intertwined in it…but the writing was not it. It felt like middle grade but the author also wanted it to be poetic and then random words thrown in from the thesaurus. I felt myself skimming through it a lot. Also I got almost halfway through and I couldn’t find my self caring about the characters really all that much and even less about the challenge that was going on. Plot points also were resolved so simply, like descending to the heavens shouldn’t be that easy for anyone let alone a human. I was more interested in the Night market and her aunts couch obsession more than the challenge and her as a person. The storyline of trying to save her father bc she didn’t know her own strength was better. I wanted to learn about her mother and how she fell in love with her father. I wanted an enemies to lovers story from her and her boyfriend/exboyfriend. Those were all more interesting than this challenge.
